Why do breweries need to test their by-products?
Breweries and distilleries need to test their by-products if they intend to sell them for animal feed to protect animals and the wider food chain. For example, several species have a sensitivity to copper toxicity in feed and therefore by-products should be tested to determine the range of copper content under FEMAS requirements.
